Sheckler as “Mick the Stick”

Though we often poke fun at action sports personalities who venture into Hollywood, we can empathize with dudes and dudettes who steer their path toward the red carpet. After all, free t-shirts are nice, but they don’t pay off mortgages.

That said, we are a little stunned by the trailer for Tooth Fairy.

Yahoo! Movies has debuted the trailer for 20th Century Fox’s Tooth Fairy, opening January 22nd and starring Dwayne Johnson, Ashley Judd, Julie Andrews, Stephen Merchant and Ryan Sheckler.

Johnson plays “The Tooth Fairy,” also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” - bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do. But as Derek slowly adapts to his new position,he begins to rediscover his own forgotten dreams.

In an interview with PAPERMAG, Sheckler stated:

Next year I have a movie called Tooth Fairy coming out with Ashley Judd and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It’s actually really hard setting my own personality aside and just giving in and accepting acting. My character’s name is Mick the Stick in the film and in one scene I have to bark like a dog for 30 seconds in front of Dwayne and the rest of the cast. I felt like an idiot, but in the end it was fun and I got to make Dwayne laugh.

“Mick the Stick?” This should be a good one folks. We are hoping that “Mick the Stick” is Sheckler’s wrestling psuedonym, and that there will be a scene with The Rock “laying the smacketh down” on Sheckles whilst wearing his fairy costume.
