Despite common beliefs, agr does sleep - we just sleep with one eye open and one arm doing bicep curls. That’s how we do it folks, constant vigilance. We are always on the lookout for emerging trends, and you can count on us to keep you in the loop.
We spotted this next trend recently, but have been apprehensive to breaking the news…we have a bad gut feeling about this one, it just don’t sit right…
PERSONAL GROOMING (even for doods)
-Mission Product is a new brand of skincare company that is designed for and by athletes. They say that athletes (we are including ourselves in this one because we like pinball), have to take care of their skin. Hmmm… We don’t know about that, but they have gotten the support of some notable athletes and formed themselves a team that includes snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler and skater boi Ryan Sheckler who uses Mission to “combat the chap.” Furthermore…

-Estate LA - makers of fitted hats that are popular among snowboarders, skateboarders, streetsters, and cool cats - has collaborated with MEN’s GROOMING (ed. note: not misspelled) company Baxter on a hat (via snowboard-mag.com). Baxter makes specially designed skin care products for men, that are “sought after by everyone from the guys next door to leading men from Hollywood.” The product line - which includes a clarifying face mask, an under eye complex, and scented candles -
is “for the ultimate playboy.”
What say you ‘goodreeders? We don’t buy it. This is mainly because we lead a more “ecological” lifestyle. This includes reducing, reusing, and recycling: we only bathe when asked to do so by pretty girls; remembering that Davy Crockett probably didn’t wash his close (and neither should we), and others’ discarded deodorant sticks can be recycled and given to friends as lovely house warming gifts.
So instead of going to the store and wasting our money, we are going to youtube, which is never a waste.

Correspondence from an undisclosed location. 07.08.08
Since my cover was blown in the Three Valley Ski Center I had to change locale. Current whereabouts cannot be disclosed at this time, but be advised that Big Perm has taken my place in Chile as a somewhat satisfactory substitute. Mission objectives are still in progress as we’ve suffered some unexpected set backs. In the meantime, I’ve been trying to mingle with the locals at happy hour to figure out why Chileans are so bloody obsessed with Pisco.
El Colorado Happy Hour Fun from El Gato on Vimeo.
Karl makes a great undercover agent too because he likes to freestyle which the Chileans also seem to enjoy.
While we ARE attempting to fulfill agr’s South American mission requirements, public help is always appreciated. After a snowboard binge of nearly 14 days, wet boots the whole time, AGR has contracted some foot fungus. Please contact us if you are aware of any remedies for curing stinky feet!

agr needs $30,000…quick. 27.07.08
While we pride ourselves in not being impulsive consumers, this was too much…
“Michael J. Fox, ‘Marty Mcfly’ hero Mattel hoverboard from Back to the Future Part II & Part III“.

“This is one of the hero Mattel Hoverboards used by Michael J. Fox in his most famous role as ‘Marty McFly’ in the Robert Zemeckis classic 80s trilogy, Back to the Future. Two styles of Hoverboard were made for and employed in the film – lightweight boards of styrofoam construction and thick and durable wood-based props – this example is the latter, and is recognized as the best example of all wood Hoverboards to have survived the rigors of filming”…”It is in used but outstanding condition, and is very rare in that it is entirely complete and intact. Given the wood build and use of metal components, it looks and feels like a ‘real’ prop. This piece has the complete fully functional and rear ballbearing-mounted footpad that rotates 360 degrees, as well as the bottom ‘magnet plates’. Of the two styles of stickers used for the effects, this prop has the ‘photoboard’-style sticker affixed. In addition, there is other textured styling and hand painting. This Hoverboard also features the hole in the top, representing where the handlebars were that ‘Marty’ pulled off after borrowing the ‘toy’ from the little girl in the film. $30000 - $50000″ (via Ebay)
Forealdo, we already got the shoes to match. Pleases contact us for donation information.

agr’s Summer Reading 25.07.08
To further increase our unrivaled intellect, we here at agr maintain a strict training regimen to keep our thinking caps in tip-top shape. In addition to a wholesome diet and plenty of rest, we set aside time to explore “smart” things like books and art. Here are a couple of selections from our summer lineup.

-Rob Mathis takes pretty photos of pretty snowboarders. Slide documents Rob’s past 10 years as a snowboard photographer, from his humble beginnings at Brighton to becoming Forum’s staff photographer. Featuring shots of JP Walker, Jeremy Jones, Peter Line, Seth Huot, Eddie Wall, Joni Malmi, Darrell Mathes, and more. The 240-page hardcover book, designed by Jared Eberhardt, is available on Rob’s website and soon to be in stores. (via Snowboard Mag)
-11 years in the making, Ed Templeton is getting ready to release his new book Deformer. In Deformer, artist Ed Templeton explores his upbringing in suburban Orange County, California, through photographs, stories and ephemera from his youth and teen years, giving readers–as he did viewers of the short Mike Mills film of the same name–an intensely close and personal look at his coming of age. He weaves disciplinary letters from his grandfather and religious notes from his mother in with telling images and brutal stories, creating an unresolved narrative that offers more questions than answers. Or perhaps the answers are these photographs, paintings, drawings and sketchbook pages, which plunge readers headlong into not just Templeton’s chaotic existence but also his use of art to address its stresses and joys. (via Amazon).

-The NYC gallery DCKT is hosting Lia Halloran’s photo exhibition “Dark Skate.” The ten night photos were taken at various Los Angeles skate spots using long exposure. Using lights, Halloran shows the lines that skateboarders take on urban terrain. It’s basically like if you photographed someone while they are wearing some L.A. Gears.

-At long last, the wait is over. Dustin Diamond, Saved By the Bell’s “Screech” has announced the release of his new tell-all book, Behind the Bell. The book will describe the “sexual escapades among cast members, drug use, and hardcore partying,” that went on behind the scenes of agr’s favorite TV show. (via NY Mag)
We are already headed to the bookstore to stake out our spot in line.

NC Productions “Almost Dead” Teaser + BONUS! 08.07.08
Our friends NC Productions have been busy this past season. Take notes folks, this is how ya take care of business.
“Almost Dead” a film by NC Productions. Produced, directed, and filmed by Leland McNamara and Sam Hiltner. Featuring: Lucas Wilson, Kyle Martin, Vincent Remmel, Jonny Malanga, Jason and Aaron Robinson, Kyle Miller, Skylar Thornton, and friends. Shot in HD in Oregon, Washington, Montana, California and Colorado.
NC’s Jack of all trades Leland McNamara was kind enough to answer some questions for agr. Enjoy.
agr: Name and rank/job/position?
Leland McNamara: Leland, aka Lroy. Direct, shoot, edit, and all that other stuff.
agr: What is the NC Productions story?
Leland McNamara: NCp is just a group of hardworking young kids from the west, all trying to make this snowboarding thing happen. Eat, sleep, party, and snowboard. That’s it.
agr: Who is the crew?
Leland McNamara: It changes a bit every season, but this years crew was. Lucas Wilson, Kyle Martin, Vincent Remmel, Jonny Malanga, Jason and Aaron Robinson, Kyle Miller, Skylar Thornton, and many other good friends.
agr: How many Olympic gold medals do these guys have?
Leland McNamara: No Olympic standouts here. Good contests are rare now days, we usually just go to the backcountry.
agr: What does NC stand for?
Leland McNamara: NC is our good friend Nate Chute’s initials. He lost his life a good number of years back but I always thought he embodied what snowboarders should be. He was always about fun and friendships. We try to make our movies the way he would. About fun and friends!
agr: Do you create an outline of the type of footage you want (powder, park, urban etc.) or is it more spontaneous?
Leland McNamara: Our winter usually just follows the weather we don’t really know what it will do so sometimes were in the backcountry or sometimes were doing rails. We don’t really focus much on park. there are good parks everywhere and good kids riding them, so we just like to highlight other things. We do do some park shoots in the spring though just to keep it all well rounded.
agr: Location of the season?
Leland McNamara: Of course I can’t tell you the best place. I could tell you the second best?
agr: Don’t ever go to….
Leland McNamara: I don’t know. Every where is good cause every different place provides something new.
agr: Tell us a joke about kids from Montana.
Leland McNamara: There is nothing funny about those kids.
agr: What’s the song from the teaser and why is it not Elton John’s “Rocket Man”?
Leland McNamara: Elton John can’t cut it. So we got White Denim - Shake, shake, shake.
agr: On a scale of 0-10 (10 high), how is the NC groupie scene?
Leland McNamara: It used to be high, but most of us have chickies now so it’s low. A few of the guys a making a come back though so it’s probably 10 for them.
agr: Why Bend?
Leland McNamara: ‘Cause it’s a great town, but it’s getting old so we might branch out.
agr: Best brewery?
Leland McNamara: Anyone with free samples. They’re hard to find, but that make them better.
agr: Best Trailblazer?
Leland McNamara: Our Best Trail blazer would be Aaron Robinson, but if your talking B-ball I’d have to say I liked it when Rasheed was there.
(Ed. note: agreed on ARob, but as for B-ball, the correct answer is BRoy.)
agr: Best snack?
Leland McNamara: Sour snacks. Hell yeah.
agr: Best Spice Girl?
Leland McNamara: Definitely Beckham.
agr: If there is one thing that agoodreeder’s learn from this interview it should be…
Leland McNamara: Snowboard ’cause it’s fun. If it’s not fun for you then your doing something wrong.
agr: And finally, a 16-year-old girl from Oregon recently added me on Myspace. I have no idea who she is. I am not 16. Did I accept her friend request?
Leland McNamara: I’d bet you accepted her. Didn’t you?
Peace! -Lroy
(Ed. note: this is correct.)

agr has a big weekend 24.06.08
Heavy weekend around here at agr. Real heavy. Sometimes you just got to set your heels, down your drink*, and giv’er hell. And that’s what we did.
-First up was International Surfing Day. The holiday was created by Surfing Magazine and the Surfrider Foundation with the goal of getting people out surfing and cleaning up the beach. Great stuff, agr indeed.
We just have one issue: some people just ain’t supposed to be on the beach, much less on a surfboard.
(Ed. note: By people we mean certain members of agr. Sorry to the family that may have been “exposed” to our less than tan flesh when we tripped getting out of our wetsuit. Apologies also go out to the fishes and people who rent the wetsuit we used. We don’t normally pee our pants, but that water was damn cold.) That said, we were out in the line-up at Westport, grinning and throwing ‘fivers.
-A little more surf action for ya: Brahs and Matthew McConaughey vs. Paparazzi.

-Next up, Go Skateboarding Day! agr put in a good showing on this one too: kickin’, flippin’, slidin’, fallin’ and cruisin’. But this guy wins (via etnieskateboarding.com).
-Mix in a couple of birthdays, a hippie parade, and you got yourself a full-plate of a weekend. How was yours?

-Scott Stevens is from Massachusetts. Scott Stevens is nuts. Scott Stevens is the reason that instead of going out and getting a job, we sit around and watch youtube videos all day. Here’s a throwback S. Stevens youtoober, “High Beam Dance Floor”:
-Austen Granger is also from Massachusetts. Austen Granger is a swivel master. Learn something about it.
-Penfield makes some snappy looking threads, and is from Massachusetts too! Take a gander:

Future Closes Doors and AGoodReed puts on Make-up 16.06.08
For all our faithful readers out there, we want you to know that this recent facelift is for you. It’s always for you. At AGR, we strive to provide the mediocre best. Low and behold thanks to a very special lady in Germany for helping with design. AGoodReed Version 14.12. You like? Comment!
For all of you that have let it gone unnoticed so far. Today is Monday the 16th. 3 days after Friday the 13th. The last day of operation for Future Snowboarding Magazine. Future Snowboarding, a Solona Beach based mag, made it real bad luck for a group of snowboard fans.
According to our sources, who wish to remain anonymous based on the timeliness and delicate nature of the matter, the company informed its entire staff at its Solana Beach office today that their employment was terminated and the magazine was closing. The reasons for the decision by FSM’s parent company, San Francisco based Future US,were cited as financial.
Our hats go off the those fallen soldiers… AGR salute!
